1. Can I apply if my first degree is not an engineering, science or technology discipline?

You can still apply, but we will look to your CV for evidence to demonstrate that you have the required technical knowledge, if your first degree does not demonstrate this.

2. Can I apply if I will graduate from my first degree after the application deadline?

You must supply a graduation certificate with your application, or alternative evidence to show that you will graduate before August 2012 with the level of performance required. Only students who have successfully graduated from their first degree can secure their place on the programme.

3. Do I have to submit IELTS or TOEFL results? Am I exempt?

Generally, unless English is your first language or you have been educated in a country where English is the official first language, then you must include TOEFL or IELTS test scores with your application (the UKBA provides a list of other acceptable tests and scores which we may be able to consider, but please note our IELTS and TOEFL score requirements are higher than UKBA minimum reuqirements). Proof that you have been educated in English will only be acceptable instead of a secure english Language test result if you have been educated in a country which the UKBA considers to be a 'Majority English Speaking Country'. We want only scanned copies of certificates for the purposes of the online application. If successful in your application, you will be asked to provide the original certificate to secure your place and you would also need to provide this to the UK Borders Agency (UKBA) when making an application for a UK Tier 4 visa. The International and Graduate Office, The UKBA

4. Can I send my TOEFL score to you directly through ETS?

For the purposes of making an application, you must upload a scanned copy of your language score. DO NOT send by post at the time of application. When we request a copy of the original document, you can send this through ETS. Send to the administrating institution, The University of Strathclyde, using institution code 0841. Please be aware that it can take several weeks for scores to reach us from ETS. If your scores are not available before the application deadline, then unfortunately we can not consider your application.

5. My IELTS/TOEFL test scores have expired, will you still accept these?

No. Test scores must be valid at least up until summer 2012 to facilitate visa applications for the UK.

6. Can I use reference letters that I have recieved previously?

You can use the reference letters that you already have. As this is an academic programme, you should supply at least one academic reference.

7. Can/should I send other documentation that has not been asked for in your guidelines, e.g. GMAT?

No. We will not consider any documentation other than the items we have requested. If you send any additional documentation it will be considered that you have not followed our application guidelines, which may weaken your application.

8. Can I send my references/IELTS/TOEFL at a later date?

All documentation to be considered as part of the application must be uploaded prior to the stated deadline. Selection decisions will be made directly after the deadlines stated, if documents are missing at this time, your application will be considered incomplete.

9. My degree certificate/transcripts and/or references are not in English, will you accept these?

We can only except documentation in English. We will accept official translations and would suggest that you consult your local British Council office for advice. The British Council Homepage

A cover letter is essentially a letter of motivation. There are many guides to writing cover letters available on the internet.
